Malé, the capital of the Maldives, is the country’s main urban center and one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with a population of approximately 133,412 residents and an estimated 50,000 workers in an area of just 1.92 square kilometers. The city is located on the southern edge of North Malé Atoll (Kaafu Atoll), close to the Maldives International Airport.
Malé is an ideal destination for short visits, featuring many of the Maldives’ most important landmarks and attractions. Highlights include the Old Friday Mosque, Stingray Point, Fish Market, Artificial Beach, Victory Monument, Malé Square, National Museum, and Souvenir Street, among others. The streets are narrow and can become very busy during peak hours.
