The city became the capital of Sri Lanka in 1815 after the fall of the Kandyan Kingdom.

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Kandy, stopping en route to visit a spice garden in Kadugannawa. This garden showcases the many spices for which Sri Lanka is renowned. You will learn how these spices are grown and processed, with a demonstration at a local processing and training unit. The farmers are organized in a cooperative to ensure fair prices, and you will have the opportunity to purchase fresh spices.
Continue to Kandy and visit the Gem Museum, followed by an evening Kandy Cultural Dance Show to experience the island’s rich traditions.

The Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha was discovered hidden in a grinding stone at the Delgomuwa Buddhist Temple in Kuruwita and was brought to Kandy by King Wimaladharmasuriya I (1592–1604 A.D.). To house the relic, the first temple was constructed next to the Royal Palace. Over the years, the temple was rebuilt multiple times after being damaged by fire, with King Wimaladharmasuriya II (1687–1707) and later King Narendra Singhe (1707–1739) overseeing reconstruction. Today’s temple may reflect the work of King Narendra Singhe, featuring beautifully painted outer walls that depict 32 Jataka stories.

The Giragama Tea Plantation, located in Sri Lanka’s Central Province near Kandy, spans several hectares and offers a comprehensive insight into tea production. In the afternoon, arrive at your hotel in Beruwala (Amarya Resort, within walking distance to Beruwala Beach). Beruwala is a charming coastal destination with golden sandy beaches and turquoise waters, offering a mix of scenic landscapes, historical sites, and sacred temples. Key attractions include Brief Garden, the sea turtle sanctuary, Beruwala harbor, Richmond Castle, Kande Viharaya (giant Buddha temple), and offshore reef gardens.
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight to the Maldives. Upon arrival in Malé, a Karusan Travel airport representative will assist with your transfer to Maafushi Island. A speedboat transfer of approximately 30–40 minutes will take you to the island, where you will check in to your beach hotel in Maafushi.
